First Zoom Council Meeting Recap

Happy Wednesday!! It has been a minute since I've had a recap to publish! Missed it and missed seeing everyone at the meeting last night. Our first Zoom council meeting was effective, still working through some technical difficulties but it got the job done. And kept us all safe in our own space.

Before I start the recap I just want to say...

THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone doing their part to adhere to the stay at home orders and social distancing and slowing the spread. Thank you to all the essential workers who are keeping us all safe, keeping grocery stores stocked or restaurants open. Thank you to this community who is trying there best to keep a safe distance but still show up for one another and still support our local businesses!

THANK YOU!

Now... about last night:

New Business

Lease agreement was approved for 2 new police vehicles - For Explorers. You will start to see more and more of the SUVs in our fleet as the manufacturers have greatly reduced the cars that are available.

Contract between the City and Southern Sky Fireworks was approved. This is the company that provides the awesome fire works display at the Christmas Parade. So be looking forward to that!

A rezoning application and variance was deferred until May 2020 for a property at 6803 JBR Memorial Drive. We are deferring zoning application right now because they require public hearings and there is no effective way to hold a public hearing and hear to the social distancing.

The alcoholic beverage application for Outrun Brewing Company was approved. Excited to see this project being closed to finishing. And can't wait to hang out there... when we can all hang out again!

The bid award for storm water projects was approved and awarded to IPR Southeast, LLC in the amount of $26,100. This will be to line an existing storm water line in the Rockborough Subdivision.

New Ordinances and Resolutions

Resolution 2020-09 was adopted to exempt Main Street Stone Mountain from open container requirements. This will allow the Tunes By The Tracks music series to still allow for the open carrier of alcoholic beverages in the designated areas. I believe Tunes is slated to return in late May, but that could change so stay tuned...

Committee Discussion Items

DDA was informed last week that the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) chose us to be Main Street of the Month for April 2020!! We are very excited about this as it shows all of our hard work has not gone unnoticed!
